Chicago - World Wrestling Entertainment wrestler Dustin "Goldust" Runnels was found dead in his hotel room in Chicago early Saturday morning, police said.
Runnels, 38, was found in his room at the Marriott City Center in downtown Chicago. He was in town for Sunday night's "WWE Wrestlemania" PPV at the Allstate Arena.(Available on PPV)
Police were called to the hotel just after 1:30 a.m. and attempts were made to revive the wrestler, Chicago Police Department spokesperson Ron Reier said.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner will perform an autopsy Monday to determine the cause of death. It could be several weeks before autopsy results are released.
Police do not believe foul play was involved.
WWE Chairman Vince McMahon said Sunday's "Wrestlemania" will go on as planned and it will feature a tribute to Runnels, who was a featured star in WWE programming.
Last year, a writer for USA Today put together a story about the high death rate in pro wrestling. A medical examiner said wrestlers' death rates are about seven times higher than the general U.S. population.
Wrestlers are 12 times more likely to die from heart disease than other Americans ages 25 to 44. The newspaper's research showed wrestlers are also about 20 times more likely to die before age 45 than pro football players.
WCRO-TV, WCXO.COM, UPeN and Simone & Schuster are Viacom properties.
