Once again CCW presented an action packed card with a few surprises thrown in for good measure. The excitement and crowds are beginning to build in Evansville, IN as the Veterans Memorial Coliseum is once again becoming the home of some of the hottest wrestling action in the Midwest.
The opening match featured J V Insanity, escorted to the ring by the self-proclaimed sexiest man alive Big Al, facing "The Baker". This contest was a battle between the strong mat skills of J V Insanity plus the not always legal tactics of Big Al and the size, strength, and just plain bad temper of the Baker. Early the size and power of the 300 lb. Baker were evident, but the antics of Big Al as he continually distracted Ref Richard Brown began to take its toll and J V gained the upper hand. In the end however it was also Al who cost J V the win. As Big Al distracted the Ref, "The Baker" took the opportunity to retrieve the large metal breadboard he carries with him to smack J V right in the face and make the pin.
Winner The Baker at the 8:04 mark
The second match of the night showcased the 455 lb. Jack Black squaring off against longtime CCW wrestler Viper. Jack Black has been piling up a list of victims since he arrived. He doesn't seem to care if he wins the match or not as long as he gets to pound on someone and that makes him dangerous. However Viper isn't above a little rule breaking himself so I was really looking forward to a brutal match. I wasn't disappointed as Black used his size and strength to inflict as much pain as he could, while Viper got down and dirty just to survive. CCW senior ref Dave Matthews really had a hard time keeping this one under control. As Jack Black was choking Viper in the corner the ref called for a break and started the five count. Black turned and shoved him back and told Matthews to get out of his face. Dave jumped in the big man's face told him not to put his hands on him again or he would disqualify him. As Jack Black went back to choking Viper, Dave once again started the five count. After reaching five, Matthews tried to physically break the hold but the big man turned and shoved him . At this point the ref called for the bell awarding the win to Viper. This really angered Black who shoved Matthews to the ground, body slammed Viper, and made the climb to the top rope and nailed Viper with a frog splash/"Bronto Bomb". I can't describe how surreal it is to see a 455 lb. man take to the air like Black does. He has also used a Swanton and the impact of these moves when delivered by someone his size makes it seem like the earth moves. Not done yet, Black pointed to Ref Dave Matthews and said "This is your fault!" as he once again started to climb the corner. At this point Viper's longtime tag team partner Jay Grunge hit the ring chair in hand and Black headed toward the back in a hurry. Viper and Grunge are two of the founding members of Damage Inc. and using that name have held the CCW tag belts more times than anyone. Grunge wasn't scheduled to be there but the crowd, myself included were sure glad to see him. He helped Viper to his feet and as I was telling the newcomers in the crowd about how long these two men had been friends and partners raised Viper's hand in victory, then nailed him with the chair. He continued to work him over until Viper lay near unconscious in the ring. He called for the mic and told the astonished fans Damage Inc was no more . He was tired of Viper being a dead weight and riding on his coat tails for so long. He then continued the beating until Evansville's own "Thorobred" Rex Sexton hit the ring. At this rate, Rex is gonna have to get himself some red and blue longjohns ala Superman. This is the second time in as many weeks he has saved someone from a beatdown. That's great but Rex is also making a long list of enemies to which he just added Jay Grunge. What followed was a confrontation between these two as security helped Viper to the back. Jay Grunge was livid as Sexton told him he didn't have the faintest idea who he was. Grunge then told him to ask the crowd because he may not be the biggest wrestler , but he was the toughest S.O.B. in the CCW. Rex told Grunge to ask Lonestar and Hammerjack who he was because he showed them last week what he brought to the table. Then he challenged Grunge to a match later tonight since his scheduled opponent was a no show. As the two men parted ways it seemed the crowd was split pretty well down the middle who they favored. This could be the start of an ugly relationship between these two.
Winner: Viper by DQ at the 10:57 mark
All this action and we're only on the third match. I love CCW! The third match of the night was a tag match between four of our up and coming young high flyers. The Light heavyweight action has become hot and heavy since CCW CEO Charlie Lowe announced the new Light Heavyweight Tournament to crown a new champion. In this match "The Brat" Brian Compton and "The Hardcore Pimp" Billy Junk were set to take on the team of Smoke-A and Mystic Juvenile. Compton defeated Smoke-A last week in the tournament and before that beat both Juvenile and Smoke-A in a three way dance. Add Junk to the mix and this should be fun. The action was fast and furious as Smoke-A and Compton started out. Once again Compton used some questionable tactics to gain the upper hand and then kept Smoke-A in the ring while he and Junk continually moved in and out without a tag after drawing Juvenile in the ring to distract ref Richard Brown. When Mystic Juvenile was finally able to get the tag from Smoke-A, they knocked their opponents to the outside. Then Juvenile used Smoke-A's back as a springboard to the top rope and then nailed their opponents on the outside with a somersaulting corkscrew plancha. This move looked awesome. As the three men returned to their feet, Smoke-A launched himself over the top. Then as Juvenile and Compton battled outside, Smoke-A returned to the ring to deliver a fireman's carry neckbreaker across his knee he calls "Trippin" followed by a diving headbutt a la Chris Benoit to pin Junk.
Winners: Mystic Juvenile and Smoke-A by pinfall at the 6:59 mark
The forth match of the night had "Sugar" Shane Matthews going at it with "The Headliner" Chris Michaels who lost the CCW Heavyweight belt to Lonestar a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately, "Sugar" Shane was once again escorted to the ring by manager Dan O'Mannly, cousin of TNA Senior Ref Rudy Charles. The crowd was definitely on Chris Michaels side throughout the match. Several times while Matthews had Ref Dave Matthews distracted Dan O'Mannly went to work with the cane he carries all the time, using it to choke or strike Michaels. Toward the end of the match O'Mannly miraculously leapt onto the ring apron considering his injured leg and all. Personally I don't think O'Mannly has an injury. It's just an excuse to use that darn cane. He held Micheaels as Matthews ran to deliver a forearm shot. At the last moment Michaels moved but Matthews was able to stop himself from hitting O'Mannly. DARN! Michaels went behind for a Patterson roll and when Matthews kicked out he sent Michaels flying right into O'Mannly who was still on the apron sending him crashing to the floor Yeeahh! Michaels then deliverd a superkick to Matthews and covered him for the pin. I couldn't resist pointing out to Matthews that since O'Mannly became his manager he hasn't won a match. I can't help it I just don't like the wimpy little Mama's Boy. I know Rudy, and I can't understand how these two came out of the same family tree. If it wasn't for the resemblance I'd swear Dan is adopted.
Winner: Chris Michaels at the 7:54 mark
The fifth match was added to the card by CEO Charlie Lowe. Jay Grunge vs Rex Sexton. Grunge used every trick in the book to try and overcome the power of Sexton. Several times Grunge rolled out after some extreme power moves form Sexton. In the end Grunge delivered a low blow right in the view of official Richard Brown who called for the DQ. Viper hit the ring and Grunge hit the curtains. Viper took the mic and called Grunge a coward for suckering him earlier. He said that he had watched his back for years and made sure they won matches because of his strength when Grunge was weak. If anyone was riding on someone's coat tails it was Grunge. Grunge appeared on stage and told Viper that he just showed what an ego he has. The same ego that had gotten them fired from 25 wrestling organizations because Viper couldn't play nice. Viper replied that when they were in the ring he was under the impression they were there to win not play nice. Grunge said Viper may be strong on the outside but inside he was soft and squishy and didn't have the guts and drive it took to be a champion. Viper said that this would be settled in the ring face to face not from a sneak attack and when that happened he would knock the few teeth Grunge had left down his throat and chased him to the back.
Winner Rex Sexton by DQ at the 7:27 mark
The sixth match was Hammerjack vs the returning "Wild Eyed Southern Boy" Tracy Smothers. Hammerjack came to the ring escorted by Dan O'Mannly. Great! (note the sarcasm) Once again O'Mannly used the cane to choke Smothers but Smothers was able to use years of ring experience to catch Hammerjack and roll him into a small package for the win.
Winner: Tracy Smothers by pinfall at the 4:12 mark
The main event was a CCW World Heavyweight Title match between Lonestar as always escorted by Penelope and "Ladies Man" Just John who won the shot last week against Hammerjack but at a huge cost as Hammerjack and Lonestar beat him near to death after the match. John made his entrance with a knee brace on one leg thanks to the fact that Hammerjack lived up to his name by smashing a concrete block acoss the knee with a sledgehammer last week. This was probably not the smartest move John has ever made as Lonestar and Penelope started on the injured knee from the beginning of the match to the end. John fought as hard as he could just to survive but in a brutal match Lonestar ended up ripping off the knee brace. He then used it as a weapon to bust open John's head and then finally applied a half boston crab and John was forced to tap out.
Winner: CCW Champ Lonestar by submission at the 10:51 mark.
Lonestar wasn't finished as he put the noose around John's neck and tossed him over the top rope living up to his name as the Texas Hangman. He then had Penelope enter the ring and hold the rope while he went to the floor and applied more punishment to the knee. Through the curtain came "The Headliner" Chris Michaels. He came up behind Penelope and when Lonestar warned her ran straight into a superkick from Michaels. The crowd exploded at this point glad to see Penelope on the receiving end for once. Lonestar returned to the ring and hit Michaels with the cowbell and put the noose around his neck. At this point Tracy Smothers and Rex Sexton hit the ring and Lonestar hit the floor. Security helped Penelope to the back and Smothers and Sexton carried Just John to the back on a table. This left the two men face to face. Michaels told Lonestar what a coward he was for taking advantage of John and said "The Ladies Man" had more courage in his little finger than Lonestar had in his whole body. He then challenged Lonestar to a return match for the CCW Title. Lonestar laughed and said John didn't have courage but stupidity and that he was calling the shots since he was the champion and he would defend the title when and where he wanted to so Michaels wasn't getting a shot. Michaels said it was in the contract that he got a return shot. I conferred with CEO Charlie Lowe who grabbed the mic and told Lonestar that he ran this company not Lonestar and that right here next week Chris Michaels would get a title shot, no DQ, Anything goes. Michaels then warned Lonestar he was coming for him and would do whatever was necessary to get the gold back around his waist.
Whew! my fingers are tired. That's it for this week. Next week CCW Champ Lonestar defends against Chris Michaels No DQ, Anything Goes. Also making his return former CCW Champ "Thunderbolt" Brandon Walker
Hope to see you there!
